Tao Kurihara, is the designer at the helm of Poepke's newest addition, Tao. She studied fashion design at Central St Martins in London and was then mentored at Comme Des Garçons. A protégé of Junya Watanabe, she was given her first label under the Comme Des Garçons umbrella in 2005.
In 2022 the brands Tricot and Tao were combined/rebranded to embody what is now known as Tao. We look forward to bringing you her wonderful work in the seasons to come.
In keeping with the true spirit of Comme Des Garçons, Kurihara is known for juggling unexpected pairings, creating unconventional basics with avant garde twists and eccentric silhouettes.
The designer prefers to let the work speak for itself and would rather that the viewer or the wearer be left free to feel what they like, liberated from preconceived notions and fashion sound bites.
Each season, shifting her focus Kurihara often explores a single concept in great depth.
Poepke is proud to present the Tao Spring Summer 2024 collection. A blend of soft romance and workwear, with a special focus on indigo dyed wovens, patching and the traditional Indian mirror embroidery technique, Shisa.
