Undercover by Jun Takahashi

Jun Takahashi stands as the creative force behind Undercover, one of Japan's most influential fashion labels. Born in Kiryu, Gunma in 1969, Takahashi's path into design began at the Bunka Academy of Fashion, where he launched Undercover alongside his classmate Nigo, who would go on to establish A Bathing Ape. After completing his studies in 1991, Takahashi dedicated himself to building the brand, presenting his A/W 94 collection in Tokyo before making his Paris Fashion Week debut in October 2002 with the S/S 03 line. By 2003, his work had earned recognition from the Mainichi newspaper with two significant awards.

What sets Takahashi apart is his fearless approach to design inspiration. His collections draw from an eclectic mix of sources—botanical elements, Stanley Kubrick's cinematic vision, preserved specimens, and Japanese comic aesthetics all find their way into his work. This distinctive vision has attracted admiration from design titans like Miuccia Prada and Rei Kawakubo, with critic Suzy Menkes describing him as embodying 'the essence of Japanese cool'.

Operating from the Undercoverlab in Tokyo—a studio designed by Klein Dytham in 2001—Takahashi maintains a permanent presence on the Paris Fashion Week calendar. The brand's reach extends across Asia with boutiques in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Tokyo, while also maintaining a presence at Rei Kawakubo's Dover Street concept stores globally.
