Inspired by the many species of snakes including carpet pythons, whip snakes, green and brown tree snakes spied in and around her home set in the hills of the Northern Rivers, NSW. Annie Zawada’s new series of ceramic ‘snake cups’ sit between functional vessel and small sculpture.
Annie’s style embraces wonky irregularity and explores the expressive qualities of clay and glaze.
The cups are hand built from speckled clay and glazes are applied loosely and fired at both mid fire and low fire, allowing colour to run, pool, and break across the surface.
Earthy greens, blues, browns, pinks, and soft neutrals interact with the speckled clay body, creating depth and variation.
These cups are tactile, intimate objects, designed to be held, used, and appreciated, putting a little art in your everyday routine.
